Hey there all.....I'd like to connect with those of you out there who collect old baseball tickets-
reg. season, world series, all-star games, etc. and compare notes, discuss resources available
to help with our searches, figure out the ways in which we can help one another find various tickets
and more. I think we need a place we can go to become more involved and active in making this
particular aspect of the hobby more pronounced and important. There are many aspects of this
area of collecting that make it quite an interesting and unique endeavor. The fact that we're dealing
with actual pieces of the game...the tickets were a part of the game, allowing it's bearer to be an
eye whitness to the proceedings, etc...They can represent more than just about any other single collectable baseball item- the game itself,, the team(s) the player(s) the specifics of the game, a memorable game, an event during the game, a memorial before the game, it being that last game,
any number of individual performances during the game and so on...It all started with the ticket..
Tickets are rare because they were never meant to be collected. Tickets were considered momentos
as opposed to souveniers, as souveniers typically represent the team as opposed to the game..
Tickets say I was there or this happened that day and aside from "game used" items which are are always extremely expensive (and at times controversial in terms or orgin and/or authenticity) are the
only game related item to have that distinction (in addition to programs which I will focus on later).
There should be much, much more interest in and value placed on ticket collecting then there is and I'm not sure why there isn't more interest and participation in the area of the hobby. I also thing there should be more communication and comraderie between ticket collectors as there would be real benefits to associations that facillitated buying, selling, trading, advising, appraising, authenticating, locating, matching up buyers and sellers, traders and so on.....All there is for us is basically e-bay
and a bunch of dealers who are all on the sell side and looking for us to be on the buy side...That's it. This part of things could be so much better in so many ways if there was a good group of good people working on improving everything something about collecting tickets or even just helping
people start things, find things, whatever...there doesn't always have to be the financial focus as the main thing here (although there is obviously the element of that involved) and it can be a better, more interesting part of th hobby than it is now. I would welcome any questions, comments, thoughts, ideas, agree, disagree, why, why not, etc. so I can start to build a consencsus of sorts and figure out what kind of energy, focus and time I think is warranted to trying to build this part of the hobby for myself and for others...Thanks. Gordon, I joined the board today and could not agree with you more. I collect tickets of all types.
I like everything, tickets being one of them. I only have a few tickets though. One is a gas house gang St Louis world series ticket, and the other is a cleveland world series ticket when Satchel Paige played for them (48?). I sold an amazing ticket for opening day 1914 New York Federal League for 900.00 like 10 years ago. Any idea what that is worth?
