1965 "Beatle-Beatle Personality Bath" Paul McCartney Soaky Toy in Original Package

In 1965, Soaky toys were taking over the bathtubs of America, to the point that parents could hardly find their children amidst all the bubbles and the bobbing collection of formerly soap filled character toys. Roughly 10" tall, with bodies that were only painted on their front surfaces, the Soakys are a lasting, positive memory for many Baby Boomers. Our parents never really understood why we liked these things so much, and it is a safe bet that our spouses stand an even smaller chance. We might not understand it ourselves. We just accept it as fact that we want those lost character containers back in our lives, even if we have to spend $1,000 apiece to do it. Fortunately, most of them, even if still filled and Mint in their original packages don't go for that much. There are some that regularly do, however. The big performers are the cross-market examples, such as the Beatles! Colgate-Palmolive released all four of the boys from Liverpool in 1965. Their packaging was a bit different from the standard Soaky toys, probably as an attempt to distance the Beatles series from the line's more childish cartoon characters. The product was called "Beatle-Beatle" and was labeled, "Colgate's New Personality Bath." On the large back panel of each pale pink package appeared four black-and-white photos of the band members, as well as their familiar facsimile autographs. The rare package that still solidly holds this, still full figure is solidly NM with only the minutest of imperfections. The figural of Paul is equal in condition, with minor "ticks" of paint missing only from the tip of the nose and his gloved hands.
