Mint Imperials were made by Joseph Bellamy & Sons Ltd. In 1870 the company started manufacturing confectionery in Leeds, but in 1899 moved to Castleford. Joseph Bellamy converted the Mountain Nail Works in Queen Street into a liquorice refinery and confectionery factory. Later the company moved to Wheldale Mills.They became known for their mint imperials, French almonds as well as chocolate covered liquorice allsorts. The business was run in turn by the Bellamy family until it was taken over by John Mackintosh Ltd in early 1964.
