On September 28, 1930, the last day of the season, thirty-five-year-old home run king Babe Ruth and twenty-year-old rookie Dizzy Dean, making his major league debut, pitched complete game victories. Dean was brought up from Houston, Texas League, and pitched a three-hitter in a 3-1 Cardinal victory over the Pirates.
